JVC Everio Digital Camcorders

By

When JVC announced their digital camcorder lineup earlier in the year, the whole team was excited – Everio camcorders are close to the top of the range for hobby/amateur videographers, and is a good backup camera for professionals.

The aesthetics

The cameras break down into several key sets – and are all compact, and look generally the same, other than some differences in size, and obviously weight, all bar one set come only in black, and all look, and therefore are handled the same throughout the range.

The breakdown of features

The camera sets themselves split into HD (which uses the .m2ts file extension) and standard (which use the .mod file extension) – all feature one touch uploads to YouTube, some feature one touch export, and each have solid zoom functions from 10x to 30x, digital zoom of up to 200x and some feature a third type of dynamic zoom of up to 45x. This totals up to a solid zoom function, no matter which of the camera within the two sub ranges that the user chooses, the zoom is at least in the mid region of any digital camera range.

File types

The JVC Everio range support all standard file types, and can be exported and edited into several key software types, including direct play in ITunes. This ease of import into player software, alongside editing software means that the camera range are designed for beginners to professionals, and gives the user the chance to adapt their shooting projects to their skills – an important feature set in any digital camera.

Other goodies

The camera types, aside from being HD or standard also come in a range of solid state, or removable media memory – which gives the range superior agility when being evaluated based on usage and access to tertiary equipment. As SD and Micro SD cards are coming down in price, it’s important to evaluate the types of memory you have access to alongside what you’ll use the camera for. If the memory is cost prohibitive, you may miss clips you could otherwise shoot – or if you have to buy additional equipment to download or access your clip storage, you may find that it costs more than an easier access camera in the long run. Thankfully, the Everio range spreads equally and solidly across several options and functions, allowing you to narrow down your video camera needs and wants, by budget, access and skill level.
